Youth Outreach Worker (YOW)

Skylark is fortunate to have on-staff, a Provincial LGBTQ+ Youth Outreach Worker (YOW). Part of a multi-agency outreach initiative for marginalized youth in underserved neighbourhoods, and special populations in East Toronto, the YOW at Skylark works with LGBTQ+ youth ages 12 to 24 and their families. YOWs provide supportive counselling and referrals related to:

  • Mental health services
  • Inclusive healthcare
  • Transitional housing and independent housing
  • and other referral as needed by youth.

As a YOW, their mandate is to build relationships with youth, identify their goals, help them navigate established public and private systems, act as an advocate, and expand their support networks. They also collaborate with stakeholders to create inclusive youth spaces, improve existing services, and support new initiatives.

Please feel free to contact Skylark’s YOW, Debby Nunes if you have any questions, or if you know of an LGBTQ+ young person who might benefit from additional support. Debby Nunes can be reached by phone 416-709-0659 or email Debby Nunes.
