Programs & Counselling Services

Skylark believes that all youth, regardless of their developmental, social and/or psychological needs, are resilient. We know through our many years of experience working with young people and their families – that with support from a range of high quality prevention, intervention and treatment services – young persons, to the best of their abilities, can become contributing members of society and productive citizens.

At Skylark we offer free, individual and family counselling and support to children, youth and their families who live in Toronto. Our counselling services are tailored to the individual strengths and needs of each young person and/or their family. And our professional, qualified staff provides a range of relevant, evidenced-based therapeutic approaches within a multi-disciplinary framework.

We have provided thousands of young people with counselling, care and, perhaps just as importantly, with hope.

All staff in clinical programs have training in evidenced-informed, clinical core competencies such as Motivational Interviewing, Family Centre Approach, Narrative Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy ensuring our clients receive the most effective intervention for their presenting needs.

In addition, training in principles of Non-Violent Physical Intervention and Applied Behaviour Analysis where appropriate, is also provided to support the work we do with youth in our residential programs.

Our goal is always to help children, youth, and their families cope through difficult times, develop new skills, and forge a path to a promising future.

Our focus and our philosophy

Our focus is on engaging and working with young people and their families to strengthen their ability to become more autonomous; to help them build necessary skills; and ultimately, to have improved developmental and mental health outcomes.

Within this framework, Skylark utilizes a harm reduction approach to service. This approach recognizes that not all clients are prepared to accept abstinence as a goal for their risk behaviour. With this understanding, we are committed to providing services that are accessible, responsive and adaptive to the changing needs of our clients.
