Day Treatment Programs

Skylark’s Section 23 Day Treatment Programs – Merge and Visions – are designed for high school students who are experiencing significant challenges at school. These young people are often struggling with academics, attendance, mental health, family, or other persistent issues and would benefit from the multidisciplinary intensive therapeutic support and intervention the program provides.

Following an intake assessment, Skylark’s experienced staff assign each eligible student to either Merge or Visions based on their treatment needs, and how significantly the student’s issues impact their functioning at school, home and socially.

The Merge and Visions Day Treatment Programs tailor services to best meet the needs of the students we serve. The Merge program also provides clinical support in French and is open to referrals from Toronto, York, Peel and Halton.

Skylark’s Day Treatment Programs are located in two, west end Toronto high schools. The students learn in small, focused classes that are capped at six to eight students per one Toronto District School Board (TDSB) teacher; Skylark Youth Workers are in the classrooms to provide youth with support. Students enrolled in the program attend up to three academic classes each day, participate in a life skills treatment group and meet with their primary worker to build on the strengths that will help them succeed.

The programs operate under the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) model. The learning and treatment plans are a collaborative effort devised by the student, teacher, youth workers, clinicians and – whenever possible – with the student’s parent/guardian. Parent/caregiver participation is integral to student success. The length of stay in the Day Treatment Programs varies from a few months to a couple of years.
